The week that was. Since this is going to be more than just sports in this post. It really does not matter what the name is. The beautiful thing about having your own blog is that you can do anything you want with it. Will people read it? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way it is what I see over the the week that was.
I will take my cue from the sports radio shows and start out with something that is not related to sports in any way. Just a general observation in life.
All you turn right on red people. This is meant for you. Most states allow you to turn right on red when the traffic is clear. The key part being when the traffic is clear. If it is not then you should wait till the light turns green for you. Being able to turn right on red does not mean that it is mandatory. Really it is fine to wait if you are unsure. Most stop lights go on a 2 – 3 minute cycle. Some maybe longer but still at the most you would be talking about 5 minutes. Unlikely that you will come across many that make you wait that long.
Really it is not worth risking your life and others. If you are unsure then wait. Really waiting an extra 30 seconds is not going to change your life. Not waiting if you are unsure might. Think about it.
The National Football League
It was a crazy week in the National Football League. It started with a Thursday game. Like every week does now in the NFL. Rams vs 49ers – Does it really matter who won? You tell me.
The next game was a London game. I like that they have the London games. It is nice to have football at 9am. Makes for Football all day. How ever this game was not close. It was a huge blow out. 44 – 7. The game was the Ravens and the Jaguars (London?). With a huge score like that, come on you are thinking it, poor London Jaguars. But you would be wrong. What you see in this score is more than likely the end of the Ravens season. It is early and they can still turn it around. They ended up benching Joe Flacco. Not sure they can recover from this.
It was an interesting weekend. The Bills beat up on the Broncos. The Bears beat the Steelers. Yes you read that right the Bears beat the Steelers. The Jets beat the Dolphins. This is only a surprise because, well not really a surprise the Dolphins are really just not that good either.
The Giants lost to the Eagles on a 61 yard field goal from a guy that the Bengals cut in the preseason. The same Bengals that had a kicker miss a sub 50 yard field goal against the Packers. Maybe justice for Jake Elliott. He did however miss a field goal as well so maybe the 61 yard field goal was more luck then what he really will be. He did however make the one that counted.
A win is a win
A win is a win not matter how you get there. The Packers showed that. The forgot that the game has two halves and decided that the first half was nap time. The showed up for the second half and for the first part of over time. Does it say that the Packers figured it out and had a great come back win. Or does it show that the Bengals are bad enough that a team has to play just over a half to beat them. This also shows how crazy the quarter back rating really is. Both quarterbacks has a rating of over 100. With ratings of 124.1 and 102.6.
Florida State is what?
College football this weekend was in interesting mix. Many people had Florida State as a team that would make the playoff. It did not help them that they lost their starting quarterback. Hurricane Irma also may have played a roll in the 0 – 2 start that Florida State has. What ever it is their is little chance that a team that starts out 0 – 2 can make the playoff.
There was one other “Upset” this weekend in College Football. The number 16 Horned Frogs of TCU beat the Cowboys of OSU (For Ohio State Fans that would be Oklahoma State University) . Can’t really call that much of an upset though. Again this points to the randomness of the polls at the start of the season. OSU was expected to be a good team and TCU was not given much credit. If the polls did not start till week 4 these teams would have probably been switched in them.
Other than that there was some exciting plays but nothing really important happened. The teams that were supposed to win did. Teams that were supposed to lose – lost.
Not much else to say about college football this week. Next week things should really start to heat up as conference play gets into full swing.
Was there a race this weekend?
Yes – let me know in the comments if you know who won. No cheating and going to the NASCAR page to find out. Just click the link to go to their page to find out. I did not watch it.
IT
Got the chance to go see IT this weekend. Who knew that Theaters were showing movies early in the morning on Sundays. I know it now and it was quite nice to get to the theater and watch a movie with only a few other people there. Then have the rest of the day for football.
IT was pretty much about what I expected. The movie IT is a coming of age movie with some scary parts in it. It really reminded me of Stand By Me. Which is not really much of a surprise since they are both based on stories by Stephen King. They could have shown Pennywise more. He was just creepy enough and appealing at the same time to the kids he was targeting. IT is difficult to take a 1000 page book and cut it down into a 2 hour movie. So it is understandable that there was a lot cut out of the movie from the book.
If you have not seen IT yet I would highly recommend it.
The Week that was Wrap up
In the Week that was IT was not the most interesting week. Not the most uninteresting week either. It was a week. Sports is getting pulled more and more in to politics and I wish it would stop. It is a free country and everyone has the right to express their opinions. I get it. Sports is an escape from that stuff. I get enough of it in my everyday life.
Check out last weeks post when this column was called after the weekend
