A observation on the sports and other events of the last week. Vol 1 Issue 1
Since I drive around a lot for my day job. I listen to a lot of sports talk radio. I would like to thank my local sports radio station for doing me a major favor this week. They decided to kick an ESPN show. The Dan Lebatard show (Don’t click this link unless you want your ears to bleed) to the curb this week and replace it with a local show. The Lebatard show was so bad that at times it was painful to listen to. What ESPN was thinking when they put it on I just don’t know. It took a mass twitter campaign by listeners to bombard The Fan 97.1 with complaints about the show for them to get rid of it. Since its hey day in the 90’s ESPN has sunk to be more like TMZ than a sports station. They have taken the E part of their name and pretty much forgot about the S part of their name. Less ESPN and more local sports radio made my week much more enjoyable while driving around this week. A great way to start the week.
This week also saw the end to the NCAA Mens and Women’s basketball tournaments. They were both great for different reasons. The mens game had one of the most exciting finishes in history. Well that was debatable since there has been so many amazing finishes in sports. Featuring what seemed like two game winning shots it was an amazing game. North Carolina coming down and nailing a shot with just over 4 seconds left in the game and the Villanova scoring as time expired to win the game. An amazing end to an amazing tournament.
The start of the MLB season this week. I still think that the Baseball season is too long. Probably too long by about 20 games but so be it. They are never going to change that. The thing I really can not understand is that every year the decide to start the season with games in cold weather cities. Every year some of these games get cancelled due to snow and cold weather. This year was no different. Come on Baseball do you really just not get it. Cleveland has crappy weather in April. Detroit has crappy weather in April. New York has crappy weather in April… Really come on now have these teams start on the road. There are plenty of warm weather and domed stadiums that you can start the season in. If you insist on starting the season this early in the year then you really need to plan better.
NASCAR is getting into its groove. For the second week in a row. Kyle Busch was the winner. By winner I mean he won the races in both series. So like no one else won this week. Just Kyle Busch. While I am not a fan of the Sprint cup drivings racing in the lower series. It is pretty amazing what Busch is doing. If Busch can stay on this pace he will be a dominant force in NASCAR this year. About the only thing that will be able to stop him is a bit of bad luck. Last year that bad luck to start the season could not stop him.
The Masters was quite the trip this weekend. For a little over three and a half days it looked like Jordan Spieth was going to run away with his second straight master jacket. The 12th hole on Sunday had different plans. Some are saying that this is the biggest collapse in the history of golf. There has been some big ones and this one will rank near the top. But in reality. It happens. Speith is only 22 years old. He will have plenty of time to over come this. He will more than likely over come it this year in one of the three remaining majors. It is understandable that he is extremely disappointed. He will get over it and move on ward and upward.
The Warriors in the NBA are having an amazing season. On Sunday they tied the Bulls of the 90’s for the most regular season wins ever in a season. On Wednesday they can break the record with their 73rd win. I have hear a lot of debate about should they go for it or should they rest their players. This type of season does not come along very often so not going for it would be sad for everyone. I say they go all out to get the record. Then try to repeat as champions.
If you have an opportunity to make history you always have to go for it. Chances are high that you will never get that chance again. No matter what the talking heads say you just have to go for it. What if you don’t go for it and then you lose the championship as well. Then you completely wasted a chance that you may never get again.
American Idol ended. It was a great run and I am sad to see it go. It also looks like another favorite show of mine came to an end in Sleepy Hollow. If you had been watching the show. It started out great went into a little lull and then came on strong for the finish. Season 6 of The Walking Dead came to an end and all I have to say about the final episode of the season it THUD. Oh well it happens to the best of shows.
That is my update for the past week. I am going to try an make this a weekly thing. Here is to an exciting week ahead.
