Once again the NFL trade deadline had passed without much activity. This should hardly be a surprise to anyone. Try as the NFL and ESPN did to hype it up. I am pretty sure that deep down most people knew that there would be no big trade. I suppose that there was the possibility of a trade between the Browns and the Broncos. If the Browns had not asked for such a high price it probably could have happened. I don’t blame them for asking You never know you might get it. Of course that brings up the question. Would the Browns have known what to do with the draft picks if they had them. I mean there is only one Johnnie Football and they already drafted him. Maybe they could draft Trent Richardson again and see if they could trade him to the Colts again. I joke of course but really is it that far from reality.
Trades during the season in the NFL are difficult. There is only 16 games it is the shortest season of all the major pro sports and the complexity from team to team is not something that many players could pickup in a week. I am pretty sure that they have this trade deadline pretty much for effect and because they don’t want to be left out of the hype the other leagues get from their trade deadline.
It is talked about like it is some big event. It never has been and never will be. It just does not work in the NFL. They should either not have trades at all during the season or just go ahead and get rid of the deadline. Think is a team that tanked the season could trade a player to a major contender right before the playoffs start. Now that would generate a lot of interest.
