NFL Playoffs continue with another great weekend of football ahead of us.The weekend is pretty much the same set up as last weekend. Two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. Again the Saturday games don’t start till 4:30PM. I am not a fan of the late starts but it seems that others are. That is alright. I think that we are in for som very interesting and fun games.
Colts at Chiefs: Saturday January 12th 4:35 p.m. ET
The first game has a lot of intrigue and interest. The Colts were left for dead to start the season. The Chiefs were almost being crowned Super Bowl Champions the way they started the season. People were having a bust made for Patrick Mahomes enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As always we can’t just let things play out. People jump the gun and take a few games to mean a whole season or a whole career. Guess it is just the environment we live in now. Since the start of the season the Chiefs have cooled off a bit. They are however still a really good team and I think that Mahomes is the real deal.
On the other side of the ball the Colts started out very poorly. 1-3. Few teams make the playoffs when they start out 1-3. The big thing that the Colts had going for them this year is that Luck was able to stay healthy. When healthy Luck has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The Colts defense has also made significant progress. Last week against the Texans they were able to hold Watson and the Texans offense to 7 points. Which is pretty impressive since the Texans were averaging a bit over 25 points a game this year.
The question here is will an indoor team in the Colts be able to play well against the outdoor team in the Chiefs. The snow will probably be done by the time the game starts but there will be the cold to deal with. Even though the Colts are from a cold weather city. That will not come into play since they are an indoor team. Since Week 7 the Colts defense has given up fewer points that any other team. The Chiefs have had one of the more explosive offenses. This really will come down to which one will be able to keep that up.
I think that this is going to be a very close game. It will come down to who makes the least mistakes.
Chiefs 31 Colts 28
Cowboys at Rams: Saturday January 12th 8:15 p.m.
The Cowboys have really been quite a surprise. I did not have them making the playoffs. I did how ever have them beating the Seahawks. More because I thought the Seahawks were not really that great of a team. Not because I though the Cowboys were. The Rams started out the season like the Chiefs. People had them in the Super Bowl less than half way into the season. Again people jump the gun and want to be the first one to make the prediction so they can say. Look I had it the whole time… LOL Yeah ok.
The Cowboys were really one of the surprise teams of the season. Few people had them making the playoffs. Dak is an alright quarterback but his is not the difference maker. Ezekiel Elliott is a difference maker. If the Cowboys can get him 25 plus touches today. Eat the clock with the run game. Then they have a really good chance to win this game. If they get behind and have to count on Prescott then they could have a problem. Dak got much better when the Cowboys traded for Amari Cooper. Cooper can be one of the top receivers in the league. He can also just disappear.
The Rams went from an unbeatable team with the best offense in the league. To a team that lost its identity. They lost two of their last four games. They won their last two but those games were against the Cardinals and the 49ers. Both BAD. Really BAD teams. So beating them really does not show a whole lot. Their offense fell of significantly in the second half of the season. The Rams defense is not nearly as good as it looked on paper before the season started. Part of that may be because of the injuries in the secondary.
This game will come down to what can Prescott and Eliott to to the Rams defense. I think that the Rams defense is going to come up big. The Cowboys offensive line is not nearly as good has it has been in years past. The Rams defense will be able to get pressure on Prescott and shut the Cowboys down.
Rams 38 Cowboys 24
Due to the Hack I am way behind in getting the picks up. The picks for tomorrows games will be posted sometime later today.
Great to have you back. As I write this the chiefs have already won. Good! The Cowboys should lose, but who know in the playoffs?
And they did lose. So it now we can move on.
