NFL Draft Aftermath and like that it is all over. We wait all year for the draft and then even though it covers three day. It is done. Teams prepare and people put out mock drafts. There is so much that goes in to the NFL draft. This year it was held in Nashville. Where attendance records were broken. The NFL has successfully turned the draft into a massive party. Next year it is going to be held in Las Vegas. The traveling draft is very interesting. I really does not affect me much since chances are slim that I will end up attending one.
I do miss the days when the draft was held in Radio City Music hall. There was something about how the stage was set and where it was held. Those days are done and the draft will be a traveling show from here on out. It is great entertainment and the amount of money flowing makes it an enticing draw for many cities. Even with all that the NFL Draft stands on its own. It still holds its identity and is all about teams selecting players. The NFL Draft Aftermath is not the same for all teams. There are things that are out of a teams control and then there are things that a team has complete control over. The combination of being able to guess maybe making educated guesses will determine the success of their draft.
The winners and the losers in the 2019 NFL Draft
Different people have different ideas about what makes a winner in the draft or in anything. Some people make it very confusing what criteria they use to decide that. So here is my take.
Loser – Anyone who read this post by Conor Orr. Everyone is free to have their own opinion. Some are better than others. I found this post when searching for winners and losers in 2019 NFL draft. I am not sure if the piece he wrote is in jest or he really feels this way. I suppose is it possible that it is a combination of both. Like I said everyone can come to their own conclusions. Conor certainly did. That is fine. But a lot of what he says in his post is extremely confusing.
Winner – Kyler Murray he chose wisely to go into the NFL draft. Not sure that the Cardinals are the right team for him or if he will even be successful. He got picked number one over all and he will get the opportunity that he wanted. With the way things went down. If this does not go how he expected and he does not get seriously hurt. He could still go and try out baseball. The injury part is really the only down side for Murray in this. While serious injuries in baseball have a much lower risk of happening. There is still a chance that they could. With the Cardinals trading Rosen to the Dolphins it is a given that Murray will be the start for the Cardinals day one. That puts a lot of pressure on Murray but takes all uncertainty out of the equation. The biggest problem with that is the expectations. Fans and teams have become extremely unreasonable in what they expect from their athletes. Be patient sometimes it takes more than a few games for players to figure things out.
Loser – The New York Football Giants. Not sure what they have been thinking this off season. First they trade away Odell Beckham Jr. for basically nothing. Then they say that Eli is still their guy for the foreseeable future. Then they draft a guy with the 6th overall pick that almost no one had going in the top 20. When the Giants drafted Daniel Jones there were two things you heard. A groan from the New York Giants fans and a cheer from everyone that is not a Giants fan. Now I do agree with the opinion that if you have decided that someone is the guy you want and you truly believe that he will be your franchise guy then you should go ahead and make that pick. I do not for a second believe the Giants GM Dave Gettleman when he says that two other teams were for sure planning to draft Jones before the Giants picked again at 17. First they would not tell you that. Even after the fact. Second if they told you that they were lying. Third Pretty sure he just made that up. The other strange thing about this pick was his explantation. He Saw Jones for three series in the senior bowl and fell in love with him. Really three series in a meaningless game that is what you based your decision on? That is odd at best. If that is how you are deciding who you are going to draft you probably should not be the GM of an NFL team.
Winner – Josh Rosen. He was traded to the Dolphins from a team that clearly did not want him anymore. That is not a surprise. Ir is a whole new staff there from when he was drafted in the first round last year. I saw a alot of people harping on the Cardinals for drafting a quarterback in the first round after taking one in the first round last year. Really that does not apply at all since there is a whole new coaching staff. The team has a different direction it is looking to go in. It is also odd that a lot of the people that were harping on the Cardinals are also the ones that were saying The Giants had to make that pick if they believe he is their guy. Well come on Man. Then the same would have to apply to the Cardinals. Either way it is going to work out alright for Rosen and for the Dolphins. The Dolphins got a guy that if he works out then it was a fantastic and inexpensive move. If he does not then it really just did not cost them a lot to give this a go.
The NFL Draft Aftermath really can not be decided a few days after the draft happened. We will have to wait a bit to see how things turn out. It is fun to speculate though. Of course if we did not do that then most of sports blogs and sports personalities really just would not exist. So we will just have to wait and see how it goes. Tell us in the comments who you think the winners and loser in the draft were. car
Wow! Isn’t it time that someone thanks Roger Goodell for the massive success of the NFL draft? Did you notice the almost glaring absence of the “Boos” this year? The ratings for ESPN were almost non-existant (with good reason!) ESPN no longer has any reporters worth mentioning. the NFL network has almost totally replaced them. The talking-heads from ESPN trying desperately to sell the NBA are so bad they almost make you sick. Welll, almost! The movw this year to Nashville was a stroke of genius and you can bet it will only get better next year and on and on….. Thanks Comissioner (it’s really the players who should be leading the “thank you” parade.
Eh. Goodell gets paid $41 million a year. Getting the boos is just part of the job. Agree on the ESPN part. The NFL network is also having problems. Not the NFL itself just the NFL network. They are cancelling a bunch of their shows. I guess they are going to put some college football games on this year. That seems strange since they have a built in catalog of games over decades that the could be showing. The cost to do that would be very low and the ratings would probably be pretty reasonable.
