NFL 2019 Preview. This year is going to be like just about every other year in the NFL. There will be some things that go as expected. There will be some things that are unexpected. There will be significant injuries. There will be some kind of record broken. It happens ever year. The NFL is calling this their 100th anniversary. It is pretty amazing that a professional sports league has made it a century.
The season will start Thursday September 5th when the Bears and the Packers start the season. These two teams have played more than any other combo of teams in the NFL. Two of the original NFL teams will start this 100th season in a game that could have significant meaning in the NFC North this year. It was very smart of the NFL to decide to start this season with these two teams. It is also nice that both of these teams will more than likely be in the playoff mix this year as well.
Overview of The Season
There are a few things that will almost be a certainty this season. The Patriots and Saints will be in the playoff mix. The Jets and Cardinals will not be in the playoff mix. For the first time in over a decade the Browns will have a chance to make the playoffs. The hold out of Zeek Elliott will be taken care of before the season starts. It is possible that Melvin Gordon has played his last game as a Charger.
Who will be up
The Cardinals, 49ers, Jets and Raiders can’t possibly be as bad as they were last year. Since those teams were so bad last year a slight improvement may not actually count as being up. If the Cardinals go from three to five wins that is still a really crappy season. I do think they will be better but not contending for the playoffs better. Other teams that looks to be improved are the Packers, Browns, Panthers and Falcons. It has been pretty consistent in the NFL that there are five new teams in the playoffs each year. While the teams I mentioned here may not be the ones to make the playoffs. At least not all of them. I do think that they will be improved teams.
Who will be down
Teams that I think will be down. The Cowboys, Colts, Ravens and Bears. Funny that I started this before Andrew Luck decided to retire. The Cowboys have a really talented team but their leader seems to bring the turmoil. I could still see them winning the NFC East but could also see them just crashing and burning. The Bears are in a difficult spot as well. This is where you will either see progress from Mitchell Trubisky or he will show what most people were thinking when the Bears moved up to get him.. What were you thinking???? The Ravens are another team that their season will depend on how their new quarterback does. I think that Lamar Jackson is a fun quarterback to watch but wonder how long he can last with the way he runs. If he goes down do do the Ravens.
