NFL 2018 Draft it is finally here.  Ever since the NFL moved the draft to the end of April and sometimes the beginning of May.  It has seemed like it has taken for ever to get here.   In my opinion the wait is not a good thing.  By making us wait longer for the draft suspense does build but it is not the good kind of suspense.   I get what the NFL is trying to do with this.   The draft has become a huge 4 day event.  The numbers continue to climb every year.  This year FOX is also going to be broadcasting the draft live.  That is fine.  I get it and I used to love to watch the draft too.  But for me it is over the top and has become something that is getting less and less watchable for me.

Every year the draft for the next year starts when the current one ends.  When someone from ESPN will put out their way too early 2019 mock draft.  Of course it is way to early.  We don’t even know what players will be in the draft or where any of the teams will be picking.  So that mock draft is just a waste of space.  Saying that if someone wanted to pay me to do a way too early mock draft I would.  So just putting that out there.

We have to wait till when for the draft?

So back to how long we have to wait for the draft.   It is a bit over the top that they mock drafts start early and show up often.  The speculation gets so bad that you have crazy trades happening and picks all over the place.  While some of this is entertaining.  None of it is actually a true prediction of what might happen.  Of course the chances of getting much of it correct is never really the intention.  It is to get eyes on your post.   No problem with that.  If I had the readership I would do the same thing.   The thing that gets a bit annoying are the things like Browns fans (local hosts) think that something crazy like the Browns are going to trade the first and fourth pick to the Packers for Aaron Rodgers.

I have always maintained that every player is available for the right price.  There is zero chance that the right price is the first and fourth pick in this years draft for Aaron Rodgers.  What would it take for that trade to be made?  A lot more than the Browns would be will to or should put up for it to happen.  I would not see the Packers making that trade unless the value was heavy in their favor.

Mock Drafts Run A muck

I think that it is strange that ESPN makes their mock drafts by McShay and Kiper part of their insider program so you have to pay to see them.  It is not strange that they try to charge it is strange to me that people actually pay to see them.  To  each their own.   Especially since they get so crazy.  But then maybe that is what the attraction is.

So what is going to happen tonight?   No one really knows for sure.  There are way too many variables.  I am pretty sure that the Browns are going to take a quarterback with the first pick.  Which quarterback is another question.   If the Browns pass on all the quarterbacks with the first pick then I would say it is safe to believe that the Browns are just cursed no matter who is running the show.  They can’t be that bad —  right.

Go Back to Two Days

I am not a fan of the four day draft.   Not a fan of having round one in prime time on a Thursday night.   I miss the days when round one and two were done on Saturday and then every thing was finished up on Sunday.  Now we have two extra days.   I am probably not the norm.  I used to watch the whole draft.   Now I watch almost none of it and just keep track of the draft.   I am sure other people are watching a majority of it.  If they were not then they would not continue to expand the coverage.  So I get it but I can only take so much of it.   I would have to believe that at some point others are going to start to feel that way as well.

So here is what I want.   I want the draft to move back to be beginning of April.  Better would be the end of March.  I also want it to go back to Saturday and Sunday then done.   However, just like that Browns Packers trade we were talking about.  It is never going to happen.

What do you think?  Tell us in the comments what you would like to see happen.
