Donovan McNabbDonovan McNabb Belongs In the Hall Of Fame – Just ask him.  Donovan McNabb is never short on shooting off his mouth.  He belongs in the Hall of Fame  – at least in his mind.   I am not sure how many people agree with his thoughts on him being in the Hall Of Fame.  I would hazard a guess that there are more people that do not think he belongs in compared to how many think he should be in.

I am not opposed to someone pushing themselves for an award.  Especially a career achievement award.  If no one else is pushing for that and they are on a one man mission then it does seem a bit odd.  McNabb will tell anyone that asks he should be in the Hall Of Fame.  He always seems to bring up Troy Aikman for comparison.  Not sure that he is actually making his case when he does that.   While McNabbs numbers are better than the numbers that Aikman put up.  They also played in a different time.  McNabb’s first year in the League was th last year for Aikman.  Things change over time so you can’t always go just by numbers.

Donovan McNabb said something very interesting in his interview with TMZ.  “When they look at my numbers, yeah,” McNabb told TMZ Sports, “but then they always want to add other stuff into it.”  Yes Donovan there are other things that go into that decision to vote someone into the Hall Of Fame.  Strange how that works.

Why He should be In the Hall of Fame

From where I am looking at this he should not be in the Hall Of Fame.   But here are a few of the reason he could get some consideration.  If you use just stats as a measuring stick and Troy Aikman as the example.  McNabb has more Touhdowns,  Wins, Completions, Passing yards and Fewer Interceptions.   McNabb is 25th all time in career passing yards.  Aikman is 37th.   If you go by that stat then McNabb had a better career than Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Curt Warner, Jim Kelley and Sonny Jeregensen.  Not sure how many people are going to see it that way.  Of course Donovan and his Mom but other than that not many.

Why He Should Not Be in the Hall of Fame

If you are going to go by McNabbs own thought of stats then he never led the league in passing.   In any of his seasons.  His best year was 2004 when he had 3,875 passing yards.  The leader that year was Daunte Culpepper with 4,417 yards.  That is quite a difference.  In that season he also had 31 touchdown passes.  The leader was Peyton Manning with 49.  Again when you are comparing Quarterback in the same time period the numbers do not stack up.

Donovan McNabb was a good not Great Quarterback

We see a lot of this.  It is extremely difficult to make it to the NFL and play 13 season in the league.  It is even more difficult to be one of the top players for an extended period ot time.  While McNabb was a good quarterback.  Probably better than average.  Even in his best season he was not a great quarterback.  I hate to base career achievements solely on winning championships but that is what in many cases will separate a good quarterback from a great quarterback.  While McNabb had better numbers over all than Aikman.  Aikman had the advantage in two places.  He had better numbers in the playoffs and he had more Super Bowl wins.  When you think of great quarterbacks I can guarantee that Troy Aikman will make more peoples lists than Donovan McNabb.

Sorry Donovan it does not matter how many times you tell people you deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.  Your chances of making is are extremely slim.
