Colin Kaepernick search for a job continues. As the time goes by many people are saying the reason he is not getting signed is because of either his race or his protest of the National Anthem last year. Some are saying it is collusion by the NFL owners. What could it possibly be?
The main reason that I see why Colin Kaepernick does not have a job right now in the NFL is that he OPTED out of the contract that he had with the 49ers. A contract that would have paid him $14.5 million for the 2017 season. He had a contract he decided to test the market. So far the market has said no. Well maybe they have. We are not completely sure on this. There has been some speculation that teams have talked to him about a contract. Probably not to be a starting Quarterback and probably not for $14 million.
If he wants to play this year more than likely it will not be for a starting Quarterback spot. Maybe not anyway. At some point a Quarterback will get hurt and a team will come to him. It already happened with the Dolphins. Unfortunately for Kaepernick that was the one team in the league that there was Zero chance that they would sign him. With Miami it is not because of his flag protest but because of his views and statement on Castro. If Miami had signed him the fans, many of Cuban decent, would not have been happy.
Everyone has the right to say what ever they want to say. Everyone has the right to make their own choices. What they are not free from is the consequences of those actions. Of all people in this world Michael Vick pointed this out. Of course people went nuts. But really is Vick wrong? He has some experience here so for Colin Kaepernick it might be worth listening to his advice. It does suck to have to change some things about yourself. Sometimes to get what you want you have to play their game. NFL careers are short you can do your thing after you are done.
Now Spike Lee is organizing a protest in front of the NFL HQ in New York. What exactly does Lee think this is going to accomplish? Is the league office going to suddenly say that a team should sign Kaepernick? All it really is going to do is to confirm to teams why they are not signing him. Sometimes a players ability is not worth the distractions. This would definitely qualify as a distraction. I am not saying that people should not stand up for what they believe in. They absolutely should.
Kaepernick is not being blackballed. In hind sight he really should not have opted out of his contract with the 49ers. He should have played out the season collected his $14.5 million and then become a free agent. That would have been the smart move. At least from my point of view.
