Cleveland Browns – Three games in SUCCESS

The Cleveland Browns are three games into the 2018 NFL Season. They can already say that their season has been a success.  At least it has been more successful than the last two seasons combined.  Thursday night against the Jets the Cleveland Browns were able to notch a win.  The first win in a regular season game for the Browns in over 600 days.    Over the past two seasons the Browns finished with a 1-31 record.  Not even the dreadful Lions teams had consecutive seasons that were that amazingly bad.   With a record of 1-1-1 so far the Browns have made significant progress.

Who to Play

So where do the Cleveland Browns go now?   Hue Jackson has said that he is not going to confirm that Baker Mayfield is his starting quarterback moving forward.  That is his right to with hold that information.  I hope that is what he is doing.  With holding not actually considering.   If he is then clearly he did not wach the same game that I did.

In the just over a quarter that Tyrod Taylor played he was 4 -14 for 19 yards.  That worked out to a quarterback rating of 39.6.   On the bright side he did not throw any interceptions.  LOL  The bright side.  Ouch.   You never wish for a player to get hurt.  Or you should not but in the second quarter the decision on what to do at quarterback was made for Hue Jackson.   Tyrod sustained a concussion and was put in the protocol.  In comes Baker Mayfield.   His stat line for the rest of the game.  He was 17-23 for 201 yards and a quarterback rating of 100.1.   The downside he did not throw any touchdown passes.  Did not matter he led scoring drives on 4 of the next 5 drives and the Cleveland Browns win the game.

Cleveland Browns Draft Picks

As bad as the previous staffs of the Browns have been.  They did do one thing right.  They were able to collect a huge amount of draft picks.  On their own those picks mean nothing.  In the hands of a good staff you can turn those picks into a contender.   The Browns have had a lot of skill on their team.  They just have not been able to put those pieces together.  They are in a good spot now.   I don’t think that they will make a run at the playoffs this year.  More likely they will have 5 or 6 wins.  That is huge progress though and that is a good sign.

The fans of the Cleveland Browns should consider this season a success no matter what happend the rest of the season.  Not many teams and or fans can say that so early in a season.   No matter what happens the rest of the year the season for the Cleveland Browns can not get worse.
