The NCAA 2018 tournament it started out with a bang and ended with a thud. Unless of course you are a Villanova fan then it was great. For the other 99.99% of the country it was a bummer. Well maybe not 99.99% but I would say a large part of the country.
Again I heard people saying that Michigan had the easiest road ever to the final four. Again I maintain that they beat the teams that they had to play. The problem is that they ran into a team that at least in the second half had things going for them. For Michigan to win that game they had to play a perfect game and Villanova had to not play a great half. Really that is what it came down to. And that is pretty much what happened.
For a tournament that was full of thrills the final came went exactly as expected. The overwhelming favorite crushed the under dog team. At least they did in the second half. Michigan actually was able to keep it close in the first half. Which many teams, even bad teams, are able to keep a game close for short periods of time. Michigan was not a bad team they were a better than average team. Villanova was just that good. I really do not think it would have mattered which team made it through from the other side of the bracket. Villanova was the best team in the tournament and would have won.
That brings us the the whole idea that the best team does not always win. I will maintain that on any given day the best team always wins. Since this is a one loss and your out tournament there is nothing to argue. If you lose you are out and you cannot win the championship. You can argue if this is the best way to decide the NCAA Basketball championship. If you say that it is not the best way then you are wrong.
It is the most crazy wild and exciting way to decide a College Basketball champion and it just works. Doing it any other way would not be nearly as crazy and exciting. So if you don’t like it then either go away or get over it.
If we were going to go with what ever you nay Sayers believe is the best team then we would just crown the team with the best regular season record as the champion.
So I will stick with this and accept that the last team standing is the champion. It just works.
