Final Four What do you mean that team did not earn it

Final Four yes it is here.  As we talked about earlier this may have been the most crazy and interesting NCAA tournament ever.  Well at least on one side of the bracket.  On the other side it pretty much went as the bracket was laid out.  So  on the on the left side of the bracket we have an 11 and a 3 and on the right side two 1 seeds.  The one side going all chalk does not take away from the excitement of the tournament.

I listen to a lot of local sports shows.  It is pretty interesting most of the time.  Sometimes they say some things that are pretty head scratching though.  I guess that is not any different than the national shows.    The main one that I listen to is 97.1 the fan.  They run a combination of ESPN content and local content.  Which is all fine it passes the time as I have to drive around town.

Crazy Comments

You pretty much expect the crazy comments from the national guys.  That is what they are all about now.  Same with some of the local guys especially when it comes to the local team which would be The Ohio State Buckeyes here.  Which is fine.  I get it.  Sometimes it gets a bit over the top but so be it.

Then one of the local guys gets to talking about the tournament.  He says the strangest thing.  Well two strange things.  Michigan is not a real final four team.  They had the easiest road to the final four in history so it really does not count.  HUH????  What are you talking about dude.  I mean really you have to win your games to get there.   You don’t even get to pick the teams you play.  It is set up by the committee when they make the brackets.

Ok what ever.  I get you are a Buckeye fan and you hate all things Michigan.  So understandable that you would say something crazy like that.  But then he said this.   Loyola Chicago as an 11 seed does not deserve to be in the final four.  He went on to say that there don’t deserve to be in the final four and makes the tournament a farce.  That type of thinking makes no sense to me what so ever.   If a 16 seed were to somehow win all their games and make it to the Final Four they would be a deserving final four team.  That is the way the tournament works.  If you keep winning then you keep playing.   Every team that wins to keep playing deserves to be there.

If you want to argue that this is not the best way to pick a champion.  Then so be it.  Really though what would be a better way.  A reasonable better way.  You will not be able to do 7 game series to get this done.   The way that the NCAA tournament is set up is what makes it so exciting in the first place.   Every team in it has a lot of pressure to win.  That is the way this type of tournament is.
