College Football PlayoffThe College Football Playoff for the first time since its inception there were no changes in the top 10.  This is a bit of a surprise to me.  No one lost in the top ten this week so it makes sence in that way.  The thing that confuses me is that this is a show.  Something that people are supposed to want to turn on to watch.  If they are not going to make any changes then what reason is there to watch?   They could have just flipped a few teams here and there.  They could have dropped Alabama to number two just to get some conversations going.

At this point in the season these ranking mean nothing anyway.  Why not just go ahead and make it a mess now.  The Committee would still know how they are going to rank the teams.  They could have an internal list and then a public list.  We could call that the talking list.  Behind closed doors the committee would just have a little LOL.  You know make it fun for them as well.  Then they could say hey look what we made the masses do.  They are all in a tizzy because of the way we ranked the teams this week.

On the other hand.  Keeping them all the same for the first time is also news worth.  Well maybe not news worthy but discussion worthy.  People like me and you and discuss the merits of keeping the teams in the same slots.  Even though all the teams won it does not mean they won equally.  Someone might have struggled.  The team behind them might have played really well.  That should merit a flip in the rankings.

Only two of the games played by top ten teams last week were close.  Number 6 Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State  48 – 47.  One point in a rivalry game really does not mean that much.  The other close game was number 7 LSU Beating Arkansas 24 -17.  That game would be considered a less good win.  At least in my eyes.  Arkansas is really just not that good.  LSU was coming of their huge loss to Alabama so you would have though they would have something to prove.   But a win is a win and they are ranked 7th and that is probably about their ceiling.   So does it really matter where they are rated at this point.

Chance of this happening again are slim.   Chances are that a top ten team will lose just about every week.  Getting to the end of the season top ten teams will be likely to play each other and then we assured that a top ten team will lose.

The College Football Playoff is big money.  But the people that be could make the College Football Playoff even bigger money.  Are they slightly turning this into the WWE?  A bit but really who cares.  It is entertainment for the masses.  Expanding the playoff and making the weekly reveal show more interesting should be on their radar.
