College Game Day – Three Picks Week Six. It was a really good week for the Game Day picks. Getting all three picks correct last week. Coming really close in the Minnesota Vs Penn State game to getting the score exactly correct. I know there is some luck that goes into getting these picks correct but when the big ol’ Three and OH comes up then I am gong to take credit for it and toot my horn a bit. With the 3 – 0 showing last week that takes the College Game Day picks to 12 – 6 for the season. For some reason I was pretty confident in the Minnesota pick of Penn State. It just seemed like Penn State was living on some borrowed time and they were ripe for getting beat. Especially since the game was in Minnesota. Wake Forest also seemed like they were due for a let down. I really get the feeling that Wake is a 3 – 4 loss team. With this loss they can still have to play Clemson and that will give them the three losses on the season. The game that I really thought was the toss up was the Appalachian State vs South Carolina. It was a pretty close game but South Carolina is in a down year and Appalachian State is up and coming. It was a really interesting game and fit the type of game I thought that it would be.

Oklahoma at Baylor
This could be the first time we see this game in the next few weeks. It is entirely possible that these two teams play for the Big 12 Championship. Baylor is somewhat of an enigma as a team. No one really expected them to be in this situation this year. They have had some close games but have managed to come out on the winning side of them. That is one of those things that we talk about needed for a successful season. Talent and Luck. Baylor seems to have both of those. If Baylor can manage to win out. It will be very difficult to keep them out of the College Football Playoff. Especially since that would mean they beat Oklahoma twice. Oklahoma needs this game to salvage their season. The loss to Kansas State really set them back. Even if they can beat Baylor that would not make Oklahoma a lock for the College Football Playoff.
With out help the only hope the Big 12 has to make the College Football Playoff is for Baylor to finish the season undefeated. Even though they were not considered a top team at the start of the season and have not gotten much respect as the season has gone on. Baylor has played some really close games against teams they should have beaten pretty handily. But they have come out on top. In the end a win is a win.
Oklahoma was though to be on of the teams that could be a lock for the College Football Playoff. Then came the Kansas State game. While it was not a blow out loss for them it was still a loss to a team they should have beaten. This does not eliminate Oklahoma from the playoff but it does make their path very difficult. This game will decide which Big 12 team has to win out to make a run at getting in the playoff.

Navy at Notre Dame
Navy gives everyone they play trouble. This year not only are they giving other teams troubles. Navy is pretty good and has been winning. Navy is 7 – 1 and ranked 23rd in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. That is pretty impressive. It is pretty crazy that Navy has only thrown the ball 62 times this year. They have run the ball 471 times. This game should be a lot of fun to watch. It is always a challenge for any of the teams out there that run and play more standard offenses to play Navy. The way that Navy plays football keeps all the teams on their toes and should make them better teams in the end. This year with Navy being a really good team it has made things even more interesting.
Navy puts up a lot of points. They put up huge numbers on the ground. Notre Dame is playing for a respectable season. The Golden Domers have no shot at making the College Football Playoff. That dream is done for them this year. Even with help there is no chance of at two loss Notre Dame team getting in. At three losses then Brian Kelly job is in jeopardy. With Navy they are having a fantastic season. At 7 – 1 their season is going to be a success no matter what happens in this game. They will be playing with no pressure on them at all. Navy is going to run wild over Notre Dame. They will more than likely pass the crazy 357 yard a game average that they have. I do not see Notre Dame being able to stop them. All it will take is one mistake on Offense for Notre Dame and Navy will take over.

Upset Game
Texas At Iowa State
Texas has been having a pretty good season. Maybe not from their point of view but from one of a team that has had a difficult few years. Iowa State is one of those teams that every few years they compete for a conference championship. They are never going to be one of the top few teams in the country but they are able to beat some difficult opponents from time to time. These teams are pretty evenly matched. They Texas has 6 wins Iowa State has 5. Both teams are averaging around 37 points per game on offense. The one difference is that Iowa State is giving up 25 points a game while Texas is giving up 30. Iowa State is also giving up around 90 yards a game less than Texas. Texas is ranked 19th and Iowa State is not ranked. Iowa State has been in all the games they lost. It took a two point conversion for Oklahoma to beat them. This Iowa State team is right on the edge of being a really good team.
Texas is a team that should be ahead of where they are at in the third season with Tom Herman. This is the year that people thought Texas would be in the hunt for a College Football Playoff selection. There is no chance of that happening. They still could get in the Big 12 championship game if they win and Baylor loses today. The door would then be open. If they lose this one then that door slams closed and the future of Tom Herman is gong to be in doubt. On the Iowa State side Matt Campbell has no such worries. As long as he keeps putting up 6 or more win seasons they will do what they can to keep him there. In a game like this different expectations can be the difference. This is only an upset because Texas is ranked and Iowa State is not.
