College Football Week 5

After last week with only one match up of ranked teams this week looks to be one that could be a turning point that shapes who will be playing for the BCS championship.  There are five  match ups of ranked teams this week.  They all have major implications on who will be the teams to make a BCS bowl. With  (7) Florida playing at  (1) Alabama this game will be a major battle.  Florida will be looking for some redemption after the way that Alabama stole the SEC championship from them and then went on to win the title.  It is fair to say that which ever team wins this one will more than likely be in the championship game.  Prediction:  Florida 24 Alabama 21 in a game that Florida wins in the last minute of the game

In a match up of PAC 10 teams that have both been flying under the radar a bit this season is  (9) Stanford at (4) Oregon.  This game is going to be just as good an as interesting as the Florida/Alabama game.  This will be the first time ever that Stanford and Oregon are both ranked when they play.  Stanford with its in your face style and Oregon with their finesse high flying game are a huge contrast in style.  This game brings back some thoughts of an old school smash mouth 3 yards and a cloud of dust team and a flying circus.  The difference here is that the old smash mouth teams of the past did not have a QB like Stanford’s Andrew Luck.  I don’t think that this will end up being as high scoring as a lot of people have been predicting.  Saying that how ever there will be a lot of points scored in this game.  Prediction:  Stanford 38 Oregon 27.

In a game that would have been much bigger last week is (21) Texas at (8) Oklahoma.  After Texas got thumped by UCLA last week this game has lost a lot of its luster.  If Oklahoma loses this one then it really puts Nebraska in the driver seat to win the Big 12 Championship in their final season in the league.  That would be a great thing for the Big 10 and a really bad thing for the Big 12.  With Texas on a big downer after last week and Oklahoma looking for redemption after Texas has had their number the 4 out of the last 5 years look for the Sooners to be playing fast anf furious.  Prediction Oklahoma 35 Texas 21.  If this prediction is true it is possible that Texas could go on a 3 game losing streak having to play Nebraska next week.

In the Big 10 there are two matchups of ranked teams.  The first one is (11) Wisconsin at (24) Michigan St.  Both teams even though 4 – 0 have only really played one game so far.  Michigan State beating Notre Dame in an over time thriller and Wisonsin beating Arizon St. in a one point nail biter.  Both teams are wanting to establish a presence for themselves.  No one was predicting that Michigan State would be in this possition(Other than my Sister) but they have shown that they are a good team building to be a great team.  Wisconsin seems to always look like they are going to crash and burn but some how seem to pull it together in the end and notch a win.  If Michigan State can keep their mistakes low that will keep Wisconsin from being able to win ugly.  Prediction Michigan State 28 Wisconsin 27

In the second Big 10 matchup of ranked teams is (22) Penn St at (17) Iowa  This game has none of the appeal of the other games and none of the appeal that it had last year when Iowa had to keep coming from behind to win.  Penn State got pummeled in their game against Alabama and Iowa just gave away their game against Arizona.  These are two teams that we really know nothing about.  Other than that they both made a lot of mistakes in their non conference games.  If Iowa can play on special teams and prevent a kick return or punt return for a touchdown then they will be in this game.  Prediction Iowa 17 Penn State 14

This week is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
