College Football Playoff 2019 Week Three.  You can find week two here.  As fun as it is to get these weekly updates we know that even in week three the rankings really do not matter.  It really does not matter till the last rankings the College Football Playoff committee put out what order the teams are in.  Then I am sure that the four are not actually ranked as who is the best but how to make the best match up.  I am fine with that.  After all they are putting on a show to pull in viewers.  It is all about the money.  Of course we all already knew that.

The teams at the top of the rankings all won this week.  Alabama suffered a huge loss by losing Tua Tagovailoa and that may have been a loss Alabama cannot over come.  Two teams were eliminated from consideration this week.  Baylor and Minnesota both dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten.  The only way I see Minnesota getting in now is if they run the table including beating Ohio State or possibly Penn State again in the Big Ten Championship game.  Baylor could get in the they would need something major to happen to every team that is ahead of them right now.  It looks like Baylor will have to play Oklahoma again in the Big 12 championship game.  Even if they win that they would have to win it big.  Not a close game like they lost to Oklahoma this past week.

Here is the College Football Playoff Committee Rankings for week Three

1. LSU (10-0)
2. Ohio State (10-0)
3. Clemson (11-0)
4. Georgia (9-1)
5. Alabama (9-1)
6. Oregon (9-1)
7. Utah (9-1)
8. Penn State (9-1)
9. Oklahoma (9-1)
10. Minnesota (9-1)

The rankings for the top 7 stayed exactly the same.  Minnesota dropped three places pushing up Penn State and Oklahoma one spot each.  They must have been watching my rankings since they followed along.  Really for the top three other than order there is no debate that those three teams LSU, Ohio State and Clemson should be the top three.  They are the only three undefeated teams in college football.  That is the spot they should be in.  I do think that they got it right with the order as well.  The goal at this point would be to set it up for an LSU vs Ohio State championship game.  I thought it would be possible that Alabama drop a spot or two with the injuries that they have.  Next week nothing will be found out about Alabama since they basically have what will be a well attended practice against the Western Carolina Catamounts.  After that we will find out a little more when Alabama Plays Auburn the following week.

Penn State moved up to 8 ahead of the team that beat them in Minnesota.  If Penn State beats Ohio State this week and Minnesota wins out that would set up a rematch in the Big Ten Championship game.  I really do not see that happening since I am pretty sure that Ohio State is going to take care of business against Penn State.

Oklahoma had a very exciting come back win against the previously unbeaten Baylor.  Baylor dropped down to 14th in the rankings and have a long way to go to even sniff getting into the top four.  At this point I see no way that happens.  Oklahoma is on the outside looking in unless teams lose that are in front of them.  If the right teams lose and Oklahoma wins out including beating Baylor again in the Big 12 championship game the committee would at least have to consider putting them in.  That will be a long difficult path for them in a short amount of time.

Putting Georgia at fourth pretty much tells us that the committee agrees with us that this poll really just does not matter much at this point.  I really though they would shake things up a bit here just for some conversation.  After next weekend is when this poll really should have begun.  This coming weekend is going to be a very exciting weekend of football.
